Second chances rise in a culinary competition where formerly incarcerated individuals showcase their grit and talent for a shot at top kitchens.
A competition series like no other – one full of hope, redemption, opportunity, ingenuity, and unforgettable characters. Jail Bake will offer formerly incarcerated men and women incredible opportunities at some of the best kitchens in the country. And it will introduce a nation to unforgettable people, like Michael Carter, who created this unique “jailhouse pizza” while serving time in Philly.
More than 600,000 people are released from prisons every year in the US and face an array of barriers to re-entry. For many, food has been a refuge, and the skills honed using makeshift tools in prison commissaries have opened doors. This series – which can exist as close-ended episodes or with a season arc – will give nonviolent offenders a chance to showcase a variety of skills honed “inside” to better their lives outside of the prison walls. And since everyone deserves a second chance, all contestants making through the competition will earn a spot in a kitchen – with the winners serving on lines or as sous chefs and runners-up working their way up from the dish pit to the prep line.
A story full of redemption, hope, opportunity, and creativity, Jail Bake is more than a competition – it’s an inspiring and entertaining social experiment, with real life outcomes for redeemed citizens, and a real chance at stardom for those tough enough and smart enough to apply what they learned inside the world outside.
